The EPDS is a 10-item questionnaire developed to assist in identifying possible symptoms of depression in the postnatal period. It can be completed in about 5 minutes and has proven to be an effective screening tool.

Validated in numerous clinical settings, the EPDS shows high sensitivity (86%) and specificity (87%) for identifying major depressive disorder. It has been translated and validated in multiple languages, making it suitable for diverse patient populations.
